Third-party inspection exists because a purchaser cannot be present at every stage of manufacture and a vendor's own assurance is, by definition, not independent.
We attend at the vendor's works or on site, witness the tests the purchase order requires, verify dimensions and documentation, and report conformity against the specification rather than against the vendor's account of it. Where a stage fails we hold it, which occasionally makes us unpopular with the vendor and is the entire function of the role.
Two plants running the same process need different instrumentation, so we survey before we specify and specify before we price. Tell us about the facility and we will come back with a scope stating what is supplied and where our responsibility ends.
