Weld and coating failures are usually process failures rather than material ones: a procedure not followed, a surface not prepared, a coating applied outside its ambient window.
We witness and document welding procedure and welder qualification, inspect welds visually and by NDT, and verify surface preparation, ambient conditions and dry film thickness for coatings. Coating inspection in particular has to happen during application, not after, because the conditions that determine adhesion cannot be measured once the paint has dried.
